The Tongariro River Trail in Turangi is a scenic loop ride perfect for families and beginners. This easy, Grade 2 trail winds along the serene Tongariro River, through farmland and native bush, leading to a spectacular lookout. The relatively flat path has a gentle ascent, offering stunning vistas of the river and the towering mountains of Tongariro National Park. A highlight of the trail is crossing the charming swing bridge, adding a fun element to the journey.
Stop by the Tongariro National Trout Centre during your journey. This spot is ideal for a leisurely picnic, and you can also learn about the river's famous trout fishery. The centre is a great way to connect with the area's rich environmental and cultural heritage.
