Take on the scenic ride from Whakamaru Dam to Atiamuri Village. With rolling hills, moderate climbs, easy descents, and a few tight corners, you'll cycle through native bush, pine forests, and farmland. Highlights include panoramic lake views and serene riverside paths, ideal for intermediate cyclists.

The Whakamaru Trail starts at the Whakamaru Dam and extends to Atiamuri Village. Riders are greeted with panoramic views of Lake Atiamuri and the dramatic Pohaturoa Rock volcanic formation. The trail follows the lake's edge through Lake Whakamaru Reserve, a popular camping spot with mature pine trees.
You’ll wind through native forests and along the turquoise river, crossing small bridges and boardwalks. The "Stairway to Heaven" at Ongaroto Bluffs offers heavenly views, and the trail finishes at the rustic Dam Café, providing a picturesque and rewarding journey. The Whakamaru Trail combines scenic beauty with moderate challenges, making it suitable for a wide range of riders.
