The perfect match

Hey there lovebirds and lovers of birdies. The Taupō region is just the ticket for a golf getaway with that special someone. Grab your significant other's hand, don your plaid pants and pastel polos, and embark on a golfing escapade like no other.

Couples tee off at The Kinloch Golf Club

They say with each swing you'll discover a new layer of your partner's personality - will they be a graceful golfer or a hilarious hazard? That’s for you to find out, but brace yourself for endless giggles, surprising victories, and the occasional sand trap mishaps. Thankfully, we have all kinds of golf, for all kinds of couples. Plaid pants and pastel polos are not mandatory.

Friday - arrival and sunset swings

You’ve arrived - take a deep breath of Taupō goodness. You’ve left traffic, kids, work and the things that get in the way of some time alone with your special someone behind. It’s time to embrace our corner of the world amidst divots and laughter.

Glamping at The Telephone Exchange

Check into your abode - we’ve got cosy and carefree options, along with options when you’re feeling fancy or a little posh. Or perhaps you can try glamping - for something a little more earthy and eco.

Most accommodation options are handy to the town centre - be sure to get the mandatory couples PDA selfie at the #LoveTaupō sign with the great lake as the backdrop, before having a swing or two on the Lake Taupo Hole In One Challenge. No golf trip is complete without having a crack.

Calling all romantic swingers

A fine dining meal at the popular Embra is the ticket to Netflix and chill. High end, and highly recommended. Taupō’s modern eatery, where seasonal produce shines, culinary innovation thrives, and flavours enchant. Booking a table is a must and won't leave you disappointed. Footsies under the table are compulsory.

Saturday - Golf and chillax

Enjoy a leisurely start to the day, and if you have time, walk the lakefront and take in the mood of the morning. There's picturesque coffee spots dotted around the lake to take in all the views together.

You’re on Taupō time now. If you’re not doing brekky at your accommodation, get into your golf gear for the day, pack your clubs and head to Storehouse for tasty tucker and quality coffee to get you into golf mode.

Cute couples at Wairakei Golf + Sanctuary

An ideal couples golf option is Wairakei Golf + Sanctuary. Since 1970, it has been a national treasure and golfing magnet - no matter what type of golfer you are. The evergreen fairways, predator-free enclosure, enchanting and abundant wildlife, endangered Takahē, foraging kiwi birds and endearing architecture delights ensure the sanctuary holds a special place for visitors. In short, the golf is great - but where else can you play golf with all that enchanting wildlife?! A round at Wairakei + Golf Sanctuary is a round with Mother Nature.

PRO TIP: Consider playing alternate shots with your partner if they’re just getting started. Forget your own ball for the outing and just enjoy the walk together. It’s a fun challenge to try and make a par together. And consider just 9 holes if 18 is too much - don’t forget you can drive the course with buggies so everyone remains happy and dignified.

After unwinding, head to Taupō DeBretts Hot Springs and immerse yourself in the fun atmosphere of the hot pools. After exploring the outdoor geothermal pools (or treating one another to a massage), enjoy peaceful serenity in one of their private pools.

Sunday - Swing and mosey

Time to check out and mosey on home. But before you do that, we have some more suggestions to ensure your couples golf getaway is a winner.

Set sail with your partner across the serene waters of Lake Taupō aboard a yacht, enjoying a refreshing drink in hand, courtesy of Taupō Sailing Adventures or Sail Barbary. It's the perfect romantic experience to share with your loved one amidst the picturesque beauty of the lake. Let the gentle breeze and the stunning views of the Ngātoroirangi Mine Bay Māori Rock Carvings create unforgettable moments together.

Alternatively, if you’re short on time, a trip to Aotearoa's most-visited natural attraction is a must. Huka Falls is one of the most scenic sites in the Taupō region and for good reason! The thousands of litres of water mix at the bottom of the falls to make a kaleidoscope of colour, a stunning backdrop to a beautiful couple's photo.

Stop before the road back home at Kefi at the Hub (just a one-minute drive from Huka Falls). They've got everything from cheesy poutine to share or sweets that you might have to guard with your fork.

It’s fair to say that Taupō’s charming golf courses are not just for sorta serious golfers, but also for couples seeking unforgettable moments of bonding and lighthearted fun. See you soon!
