Art & culture events

Art is around every corner in Taupō – literally! Taupō town is home to New Zealand’s largest collection of street art, with creative and colourful murals adorning buildings all around town.

Every year the collection is celebrated and expanded in the Labour Weekend Graffiato: Taupō Street Art festival, when local and international street artists come to town to share their skill.

On Queen’s Birthday Weekend in June, the annual Taupō Art Trail takes you inside the studios of local artists, and there are boutique galleries open year round.

The Taupō Winter Festival in July is the highlight of the performing arts calendar, and travelling theatre troupes and the Royal New Zealand Ballet stop in on their tours through the year.

The annual Ngāti Tūwharetoa Taiopenga festival includes kapa haka performances, craft stalls and poi demonstrations.

A visit to the Taupō Museum is a must for art and culture lovers - it hosts local and international exhibitions.
