Love culture

Inspire and empower your group’s cultural awareness and artistic flair through authentic experiences by exploring Taupō’s rich cultural heritage, prolific arts scene and engaging natural encounters.

A rich backdrop of culture

From traditional Māori experiences to contemporary art and crafts, there’s a wealth of stunning work and insightful activities to see and do. Your group will leave Taupō having connected with our people, our stories and with each other, enriching their time together at your business event.

Under 2 hours

Even with limited time to spare, Taupō has a huge variety of arts and culture activity options on offer for small to medium groups. Lava Glass Gallery & Café offers a unique opportunity to watch first-hand the fascinating art of glass blowing in their studio, inspired by the surrounding landscape. Add to the experience with a stroll through their nationally recognised glass sculpture garden. The onsite café can cater for a group morning/afternoon tea, lunch or pre-dinner canapé event.

From 2 to 4 hours

Have extra time up your sleeve? A cruise to see the famous Ngātoroirangi Mine Bay Māori Rock Carvings is a must for groups visiting Taupo. Chris Jolly Outdoors, Sail Barbary, Lake Taupō Cruises and Taupō Sailing Adventures all operate on the lake and groups can work with one or all companies to create a unique cultural experience. Regal Flyer is a fully catered luxury charter cruise accommodating up to 75 people that is ideal for corporate groups, team building and incentive events.

From 4 to 6 hours

For larger group sizes or longer timeframes consider combining a hke and a cruise. Explore Kinloch to Kawakawa – a guided hike and cruise combo with Chris Jolly Outdoors. Be met at your accommodation and transferred by 4WD to the start of a spectacular two-hour hike to Kawakawa Bay, where a launch will be waiting with a sumptuous lunch onboard, wines and beverages, followed by trout fishing, clay target shooting (conditions apply) and viewing Ngātoroirangi Mine Bay Māori Rock Carvings.

From half to full day

For larger group sizes or longer timeframes, mix and match a range of cultural experiences on a scenic drive with coach company Nimons & Sons. Make sure you include a wander through the numerous art galleries. Visit Lake Rotoaira where the Ka Mate haka was born, Taupō Museum and a fortified village. Add on the Taupō Art Connection Art Trail for an inside peek into the studios of local artists. Finish off with a local craft beer tasting or wines with a view along the lakefront or onboard a luxury launch.

After dark

End your day in style. Enjoy wood-fired pizzas and Peroni at Two Mile Bay Sailing Club – Taupō’s only over-water venue, and soak in unrivalled waterfront views of Lake Taupō at night. Head out on the water and take an evening cruise to the Ngātoroirangi Mine Bay Māori Rock Carvings – one of New Zealand’s most extraordinary contemporary Māori artworks. Taste foods from around the world at Wairakei Resort’s International Market Street Food Night Market or dine out at local restaurants.
