When I’m working with flowers, I feel at home. It’s my art and my passion not just a business. I set up X.O.X Floral because I wanted a way to work with flowers that was reflective of my style, my belief in the way floristry should be and because I wanted a business that worked with my family. The abiding principle behind what we do is to create connections between people and their environments. I want people to look at my flowers and feel something, feel a connection with their grandmother’s garden or recognise something they’ve seen growing by the roadside but never really paid attention to before.
Our bouquets and arrangements are created using seasonally available flora that we’ve either picked ourselves or sourced from NZ growers. Because we’re trying to be the change we want to see, we don’t use imported flowers or floral foam. After all Taupō has a cold, harsh climate not a tropical one! Our bouquets are lovingly wrapped in brown paper, with recycled fabric used as ribbons and if you want your bouquet delivered in water we’ll put it in a glass jar. Our wreaths are also made from scratch and tied with twine using a mix of fresh and dried flora.
We love doing weddings and it’s a privilege for us to create the florals that will be in your photos and memories forever. Because we absolutely love what we do and we do it well, you can trust us that whatever florals you’re wanting - be it armfuls of foliage for the marquee, a stunning ceremony backdrop or a gorgeous, flowing bridal bouquet, we’ll put our heart and soul into it.
A Japanese proverb I came across a while back is - ‘Happiness is to hold flowers in both hands’ and to me it’s a reminder to stop and breathe and focus on the now. Hopefully, if nothing else, that’s what we do - spread a little happiness.
