Oruatua Walk

Tauranga Taupō

At the mouth of the Tauranga-Taupo River in the small village of Oruatua, there are two easy walking tracks to enjoy the river, the native bush of the reserves and the expansive lake views.

This track winds through the Oruatua Reserve and Conservation Area, with options to walk a loop, either by using the beach or the road. A pleasant, easy walk where you can enjoy the native bush and wetland area.

Look out for the ongoing work being done by the Hilltop School Weedbusters to rid the area of weeds and plant native species. They are also helping to regenerate the birdlife by undertaking pest control.

Getting there: Turn off SH1 onto Heuheu Parade on the southern side of the river, then left into Kopua Street and follow the unpaved oneway road to the grassy lakeside clearing where the track begins.
