Keen to get out and explore but want to stick to your bubble? Come together in a safe way and create new memories in Taupo with these awesome activities that are ideal for small groups, right in the heart of this place.
The first of it's kind in New Zealand and unique to Lake Taupo, Doughboats are the ultimate bubble friendly activity. Nominate your bubble captain, pack your picnic basket, bottle of wine or cheeseboard, and head out on Lake Taupo in your own eco-friendly donut boat. Spend two hours cruising the lakefront with your own music playing through the bluetooth speakers or book an evening sunset trip whilst enjoying the multicoloured lights onboard. The electric engine boats seat up to six and are very easy to use, cruising up to five knots. Doughboats are a fun and unique way to get your family or small group out on the water.
The Tongariro River offers some of the most spectacular scenery you will see anywhere in the country. Take your bubble on a rafting adventure on the lower sections of the river with Tongariro River Rafting where the whole family can enjoy the gentle currents and fun bouncy rapids, with enough action to keep you on your toes but without scaring the younger members of your group. Your raft will be exclusive to your bubble with just your personal guide leading the way, from a safe distance in the rear of the raft. Additional precautions are in place throughout your adventure to ensure only your bubble will be at the base and all safety and hygiene precautions are undertaken, so get out there and have some fun on the Tongariro River!
Taupo is renowned for its amazing mountain biking and hiking trails. Explore world-class trails through stunning native forest, alongside geothermal streams and waterfalls, and across swing bridges. Bring your own bike or hire one from a local specialist, then select from a range of trails designed to suit all biking levels. Ride or walk alongside the aquamarine coloured waters of the Waikato River to view the famous Huka Falls, or book an exclusive shuttle transfer to explore the spectacular Great Lake Trails. With thousands of kilometres of biking and hiking trails throughout the region, the opportunities are endless.
The autumn and winter months offer some of the most spectacular, crystal clear and calm days to explore the waters of Lake Taupo. Take your bubble on a private fishing charter to learn the art of catching the feisty trout! Spend the day with a skipper, who will take you to visit their favourite fishing spots. Take in the beautiful scenery of the bush clad bays and the iconic Ngatoroirangi Mine Bay Maori Rock Carvings before hooking the big one! Take your freshly caught trout back to your accommodation or local restaurant, to cook and enjoy.
