Long-standing tournament pedigree
Wairakei Golf + Sanctuary brings long-standing tournament pedigree, mature fairways and a uniquely geothermal setting, while Kinloch Club offers dramatic contours and internationally recognised design in a striking hill-country landscape. Together, they reflect the variety and quality that continue to make Taupō one of the country’s strongest golf regions.
“With two very different championship venues in the same district, Taupō offers something few golf destinations in New Zealand can match,” said PGA of New Zealand Tournament’s Coordinator, Peter Witton.
Premium golf experience
A $125,000 prize purse, backed by a two-year commitment, places the tournament among the most significant golf events held in Taupō in recent years. The PGA of New Zealand suggested around 100 players will travel to Taupō for the event, with additional support teams, partners and event personnel also contributing to several days of accommodation, dining and local activity.
“It is about creating a premium experience for players and amateurs, while also putting destinations like Taupō in front of golfers who may return again for their own trips,” Witton said.
NZ Speedgolf Open, Men’s Mid-Amateur champs
The same weekend also coincides with the TORO New Zealand Speedgolf Open at Taupō Golf Club, while the following week the course hosts the New Zealand Men's Mid Amateur Championship, adding further depth to an already busy month of golf in the district.
Together, the stretch of events reinforces Taupō’s depth as a golf destination — from championship resort layouts to established local fairways, all framed by Taupō’s iconic landscapes that continue to make playing here memorable.
For visitors and locals alike, it shapes as a pretty good fortnight to be anywhere near a fairway in Taupō.
