PR & Communications

We work with local tourism operators to tell the stories that inspire people to visit our region. Whether you’ve launched a new experience, are hosting a unique event, achieved an exciting milestone, or have a story that showcases what makes Taupō special, we’d love to hear from you.

We regularly work with domestic and international media, content creators, tourism partners and our own marketing channels to showcase the very best of the Taupō district. While we can’t guarantee coverage, sharing your news helps us identify opportunities throughout the year.

Media famils

Throughout the year we host selected journalists, writers, content creators, and media agents. These visits may be led by DGLT, Tourism New Zealand or delivered in partnership with neighbouring regions.

Each famil is carefully planned to match the target market, audience, theme, and what’s new. Some media are looking for a broad destination experience, while others visit with a specific story angle or feature in mind.

How can you help?

  • Be media ready. Great stories come from passionate people. Be prepared to share what makes your business unique, what’s new and why visitors love your experience.
  • Provide us with the best rates you can. The lower the cost of famils, the more people we can host and therefore spread the word about our beloved region. We appreciate all the support we can get – FOC as much as possible or at cost. Famils are not here to generate profit for your businesses but to showcase your product, consider it as part of your marketing budget.
  • Health & Safety: For all Tourism New Zealand media famils, involved operators must be Qualmark approved.

Storytelling & Content

We’re always looking for authentic local stories that celebrate the people, places, and experiences that make Taupō unique. These stories may feature across the Love Taupō website, social media channels, newsletters or other marketing activity.

What can you do?

  • Share news, milestones, new products, awards, events or unique experiences with us
  • Attend a Product Update (see more info below) to introduce/refresh your business to the Love Taupō team and help us better understand your offering
  • Let us know if you have any seasonal stories or experiences that deserve to be shared.

View our latest stories and blogs here. Share your stories here.

Product Updates

Share your story with the Love Taupō team. The more we know about your business, your visitors and your goals, the better we can identify opportunities to support you through marketing, trade, PR and communications, digital, and social media. Find out more here.

Register your interest by emailing Victoria.

Weekly LakeFM radio segment

We have a weekly tourism segment with LakeFM, the Love Taupō Check In. Patrick shares a short tourism update followed by an interview with a local tourism operator. Interviews can be found on Spotify, iHeart, and Apple Podcasts.

This is a great opportunity to share any deals, events, or specials for the local audience. Let us know if you’d like to be involved in an interview by emailing Victoria.
