Lake Taupō boutique accommodation providers have once again proven they're among the very best in the country, taking home three prestigious awards between two local properties in the past week.

The Olive Rabbit Boutique Bed & Breakfast in Tūrangi claimed a remarkable double at the Bed & Breakfast Association NZ (BBANZ) Conference in Christchurch last weekend, winning both the Exceptional B&B Business of the Year and the Supreme B&B Business of the Year award.

The accolades build on the property’s previous success after taking out the Essence B&B of the Year title in 2023 and recognise the hosts’ unwavering commitment to delivering personalised guest experiences and excellence in hospitality.

Co-owners Mary and Tim Wood were delighted and overwhelmed with gratitude to receive the two awards.

“They recognise the care and commitment we put into creating a welcoming experience for our guests, but they also reflect the encouragement, generosity and shared knowledge of our BBANZ colleagues, mentors and fellow Bed & Breakfast operators. We are proud to showcase the beauty, experiences and hospitality of the wider Taupō region, and to welcome visitors who come to discover this special part of New Zealand.”

Meanwhile, Whakaipo Lodge has added another international accolade, ranking 5th in New Zealand in the B&B and Inns category of the 2026 Trip Advisor Best of the Best awards. It’s the lodge’s third consecutive Best of the Best title, having previously won the awards (then known as Travellers’ Choice) twice. Whakaipo Lodge is also a three-time Supreme Winner in previous years of BBANZ Excellence Awards.

Whakaipo owners Garth and Angie London said recognition never loses its impact, no matter how many times it comes around. “It always surprises and humbles us, as there are so many great operators in our segment," they said. “A huge thank you to the lovely guests who have supported us this year. It really is all about people.”

Love Taupō General Manager Patrick Dault said the results were a fantastic endorsement of the quality and warmth on offer across the region's accommodation sector.

“To have two of our local B&Bs recognised with three major awards in the space of a week speaks volumes about the high calibre of hospitality here in the Taupō district. The hosts of Olive Rabbit and Whakaipo Lodge are wonderful ambassadors for our region, and these wins will only help put Taupō further on the map for discerning travellers, both in New Zealand and overseas.”
