The Antarctic Film Festival

An unforgettable evening of storytelling from the coldest place on Earth. The New Zealand Antarctic Society is proud to invite you to a presentation by Richard Balm and a curated selection of captivating short films from the heart of Antarctica.

The films blend stunning documentary footage, curated by award winning filmmaker Anthony Powell, that reveals the continent’s stark beauty, unforgiving conditions, climate change, and penguin antics with stories captured by inventive and funny entries from the Winter International Film Festival of Antarctica’s 48-Hour Challenge, an annual showcase of creativity and resilience from those who winter-over on the Ice.

Before the films, hear from Richard Balm, speaking on dogs and wintering over at Scott Base. Richard will share what life was like through the long Antarctic winter, the routines, the resilience, and the close-knit station community, along with the vital role the dog teams played in day-to-day life and field work on the ice.
