Join us for the Lake Taupō Manaakitanga Hui 2026, a regional industry event designed to bring together tourism operators, hospitality businesses, retail teams, and industry stakeholders across the Taupō visitor economy.

The Love Taupō Manaakitanga Hui aims to strengthen collaboration across the local tourism sector and create opportunities for businesses to connect, share knowledge, and promote their tourism products.

The programme will include three key components:

Tourism Summit – “Power of Unity”

A one-day conference exploring the wider tourism landscape in Aotearoa New Zealand and highlighting the importance of regional collaboration within the visitor economy.

Tourism Marketplace

An industry marketplace where tourism operators can present their products and services to visitor-facing staff from accommodation providers, hospitality businesses, retail outlets, and other tourism organisations.

Launch of Famil Week 20-27 August 2026

The event will also introduce the Taupō Famil Week initiative, encouraging tourism and hospitality staff to experience local products through special industry offers.

This initiative aims to strengthen knowledge of Taupō tourism experiences and encourage stronger local advocacy for the region.

Love Taupō Tourism Marketplace (Previous Operator Showcase)

The Love Taupō Tourism Marketplace connects tourism operators with visitor-facing staff to build product knowledge and strengthen referral relationships across the region.

It will:

  • Increase awareness of Taupō tourism products
  • Facilitate direct engagement between operators and frontline staff
  • Strengthen industry connections

This will be delivered through a marketplace where operators showcase their products and connect with attendees.

Exhibitors

We’re inviting up to 20 tourism operators to host a table and showcase their products to an engaged tourism audience.

Benefits:

  • Increased visibility among visitor-facing staff
  • Opportunities to build partnerships
  • Promotion of Famil Week offers
  • Stronger referral relationships

What’s required:

  • A small display (e.g. flyers, visuals, banner) Note: Pop-up banners are allowed during the Marketplace only. Max. two representatives per organisation.
  • A short, interactive presentation (approx. 5 minutes)
  • Optional giveaways or spot prizes
  • A friendly, engaging approach
  • Willingness to connect and share your experiences

Launch of Love Taupō “Famil Week”

Thursday 20 August – Thursday 27 August 2026

The event will also introduce the Love Taupō Famil Week initiative, designed to give tourism and hospitality staff the opportunity to experience local tourism products first-hand.

Tourism and hospitality businesses are invited to participate by providing special industry-only offers or experiences for local visitor-facing staff during Love Taupō Famil Week (Thursday 20 August – Thursday 27 August).

This initiative aims to help staff become stronger ambassadors for the region by experiencing Taupō’s products first-hand and confidently recommending activities and experiences to visitors.

Examples of offers may include:

  • Discounted activity experiences
  • Special dining offers
  • Hosted familiarisation sessions
  • Accommodation or experience packages for industry staff

How to Participate

Operators can participate by creating a special industry offer and making it available during Taupō Famil Week.

  • Decide what experience or offer you would like to provide for tourism and hospitality staff
  • Create your industry offer, set up booking site or discount code for 20-27 August 2026 period
  • Send the information to DGLT by Friday, 31 July 2026 (Detail comes shortly).
  • Feature on the Love Taupō Manaakitanga Hui Website on Tuesday 4 August, and booking starts.
  • Introduce Famil Week by EDM and on Manaakitanga Hui
