Waikato River Trails (Mangakino to Mangakino swingbridge section), Mangakino

Explore the Maraetai section of the Waikato River Trails, find the 12 green geckos hidden along the trail and you could be in to win some epic prizes!

Where to start:

The Green Gecko Treasure Trail begins and ends at the Mangakino Lakefront Reserve. The trail passes through the reserve - follow the signs towards Whakamaru. You will return the same way.

Be sure to pick up your passport from Ata's Bar & Eatery on the way - also a great place to stop at the end for a well-deserved hot chocolate and muffin.

The trail

Easily accessed from Mangakino lakefront this section has great views across Lake Maraetai.

You will ride out towards Whakamaru - keep an eye out for the green geckos hidden along the trail and collect the code letters as you ride! Once you reach the 70m Mangakino swingbridge, you will then turn around and head back towards Mangakino. The treasure trail is 4.7km each way (9.4km total).

The riding on this section of the trail is relatively flat and the trail surface is mostly firm.
