Taupo’s Monster Bike Sale back for 2019

The 2019 Taupo Monster Bike Sale is back and set to hit Taupo these April school holidays. Starting Saturday 13 April, six bike shops around the region will be offering great deals and discounts for the two-week duration of the holidays.

Date: 26 Mar 2019

The sale is the collective initiative of Destination Great Lake Taupo (DGLT), Towncentre Taupo, Bike Taupo and local bike shops as part of a drive to promote cycling in the region. DGLT has focused its autumn marketing campaign on cycling for the second year running, and the bike sale gives visitors another reason to travel to Taupo.

Towncentre Taupo General Manager, Julie McLeod: “The inaugural 2018 Monster Bike Sale was a huge success for the town centre, attracting many people from out of town who not only found great bike deals, but also dined in our cafes and restaurants, spent time shopping in our CBD and exploring the many great trails and activities on offer in the region”.

“We’re very keen to build on the success of last year” says Julie.

This year’s sale expands into Turangi bringing the total number of stores involved to six.

“The fact that Taupo has six thriving bike shops all willing to work collectively again this year is a real testament to the bike culture in this place” says Julie.

Taupo offers some of the best biking in New Zealand on a network of internationally recognised, purpose-built trails to suit every kind of rider.

“There really are few better ways to enjoy Taupo’s epic natural landscapes than from the saddle of a bike” says Anna McLaren, Marketing and Communications Manager, DGLT.

“With our free-draining volcanic pumice soil, autumn is a fantastic time to ride in Taupo, and the Monster Bike Sale gives people the opportunity to pick up a bargain or get that new bike they’ve always wanted, then head out for a ride on the many great trails around the region”, says Anna.

Selected purchases made at participating stores during the two-week duration of the Monster Bike Sale allows entry into a draw to win one of two prizes; a luxury cycling weekend for two in Taupo or a family fun cycling weekend for four in Turangi.

The popular Second-hand Bike Sale also returns this year, to be held on Saturday 13 April on the Tongariro North Domain. For a small fee, 100% of which will go towards Kids Bike Taupo, people will be able to bring their bikes and bike parts along to sell, or hunt for a preloved bargain.

More information about the Monster Bike Sale is available at www.TaupoMonsterBikeSale.com or from one of the local bike stores.

Participating stores include Pack & Pedal, Central Plateau Cycles (Taupo and Turangi), Torpedo7, Huka Cycles and Top Gear Cycles.
