Spring in Taupō

September / October / November
8˚C – 21˚C

It’s tough to pick a favourite, but spring might just be the perfect season to visit Taupō, as the first breath of warmth makes all things possible.

The Mt Ruapehu ski areas stay open later than anywhere else in Australasia, with Whakapapa open to the end of October. The superb, slightly softened snow conditions are perfect for learners and kids.

Thanks to the free-draining, pumice-rich soils of the region, the trails around the forests and lake are ready for hiking and biking on the mild, clear days. Under the soft, spring light, forest walks, scenic cruises and days on the golf course are even more beautiful than usual, especially with new leaves sprouting on the trees, and spring flowers in blossom. The trout are waking up too, and ready to start biting in the back-country rivers and streams.

And as locals venture outside more after the winter, events like Graffiato: Taupō Street Art Festival, markets and fireworks displays are a great excuse for celebration.
